At Walhealth, we are constantly striving to improve our services, strengthen our governance, and stay true to our mission of providing quality healthcare to the communities we serve. As part of our ongoing commitment to growth and improvement, we are excited to share some key updates regarding our operations, governance, and recruitment efforts.
Independent Service and Model of Care Review
As part of our ongoing transformation, Walhealth has initiated an independent review of our Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Model of Care. This review, conducted by an expert Aboriginal consultant, is a crucial step in ensuring that Walhealth remains deeply connected to its roots as an Aboriginal Medical Service serving the Liverpool Plains region.
The review includes recommendations that align with our contractual arrangements and will guide us in the next phase of improvement. This process is supported by a partnership with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care (CDoHAC), which has fully funded the business and corporate review.
Through this partnership, expert business improvement consultants will assist us in designing a comprehensive business improvement and implementation plan. This plan will enhance every aspect of our operations, from our current service footprint to potential expansion plans, ensuring that Walhealth can continue to serve our community effectively for years to come.
Board Development: Investing in Governance
In November 2024, Walhealth’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) marked the beginning of an exciting new phase for our governance. The Walhealth Board is dedicated to continuous improvement, and our current leadership group has completed an intensive, week-long training program aimed at enhancing our governance and corporate knowledge.
The training covered a variety of important topics, including:
- Fundamentals of Board Governance
- Financial Literacy
- Constitution Purpose and Processes
- Strategic Planning
- Annual Reporting
These professional development activities are part of our long-term goal of ensuring Walhealth’s sustainability and success. Our focus is on succession planning and developing skills-based professionals who exemplify Aboriginal excellence at the highest levels, ensuring we remain a trusted provider of quality services for our communities.
Recruitment Update: Strengthening Our Team
In line with our commitment to improving service delivery, Walhealth has been actively recruiting for key positions across the organization.
