Gunnedah High Students Cook Up Healthy Choices with Walhealth WARRANGAL Program

Students at Gunnedah High School had a hands-on learning experience this week, taking part in an interactive activity run by Walhealth as part of the WARRANGAL Cancer Strategy. The session was delivered to Clontarf and Stars students, focusing on the health and financial impacts of smoking and vaping.

During the activity, students worked in teams using provided recipes to prepare a variety of meals. While cooking, they took turns answering questions about smoking and vaping, using information sheets to guide discussion and learning. The activity highlighted how money spent on smoking and vaping could instead go towards providing nutritious meals for a family of four, giving students a real-life perspective on the cost of these habits.

The day concluded with a quiz reinforcing key facts about smoking and vaping. The winning team was recognised for demonstrating strong teamwork and actively engaging with Walhealth staff throughout the session.

Walhealth staff said it was inspiring to see students so engaged, asking questions, and learning in a practical, fun way. Activities like this are part of Walhealth’s ongoing work to support young people through education, prevention, and empowerment as part of the WARRANGAL Cancer Strategy.
